Summary

Palm Beach Maritime Academy Elementary in Lantana, FL, is a K-5 public charter school serving 579 students in the Palm Beach district, with 67.4% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. This school has undergone a remarkable transformation, climbing from the 6th percentile statewide in 2020-2021 to the 43rd percentile in 2025-2026—a 37-point jump that makes it one of the fastest-improving schools in the area. Its standout strength is math, where it outperforms both district and state averages in every grade (e.g., 68% proficient in 3rd grade vs. 67% district and 66% state), a stark contrast to nearby Lantana Elementary School (51% in 3rd grade math) and Starlight Cove Elementary School (40%).

However, the school has a clear academic profile: strong in math but weaker in English Language Arts (ELA), where it trails the district in every grade (e.g., 42% proficient in 3rd grade ELA vs. 59% district). This pattern is common among nearby schools, but the gap is more pronounced here. Interestingly, the school's improvement is happening despite a high chronic absenteeism rate of 33.8% in 2023-2024, which is the highest among nearby schools and well above the district average of 23.4%. This suggests that the students who attend regularly are making significant gains, but the school's overall success remains fragile if absenteeism isn't addressed. Science scores have also shown impressive growth, rising from 23% proficient in 2022-2023 to 55% in 2025-2026, nearly matching district and state averages.

Compared to other local schools, Palm Beach Maritime Academy Elementary stands out for its upward trajectory, especially when contrasted with Lantana Elementary School (14th percentile) and Barton Elementary School (4th percentile), which have stagnated. The only nearby school with a comparable positive trend is Imagine Schools Chancellor Campus (56th percentile). Notably, the school achieves these results with lower per-student spending ($13,005) than traditional public schools like Lantana Elementary ($19,621), highlighting that resource allocation and instructional strategy matter more than total funding. For parents, this school offers a unique blend of strong math instruction and a dramatic turnaround story, but the high absenteeism and weaker ELA scores are important factors to consider.

Open Quote Terrible school no school books for the kids to study from . School has a bigger focus on social issues especially lgbt since half the student body identifies as. Racial tension no academic focus sad for the kids . I have made numerous in person trips too the school to speak with admin and everything false on half listening mostly deaf ears. My child got a report card that had been issued based on false grades entered by a language arts teacher who addresses the children by bro and swears openly called a child asshole Close Quote

Open Quote PBMA is filled with teachers that really care about the children. They offer extra help to students that need it and push children to their full potential through support, expectations and determination. Curriculum meets and exceeds that of the Palm Beach County School District and field trips are hands on and relavent to Maritime industries.
