Summary

Olympic Heights Community High in Boca Raton, FL, serves 2,239 students in grades 9-12 within the Palm Beach School District, a predominantly middle-to-upper-middle-class area where only 22% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Olympic Heights presents a fascinating paradox: it boasts a near-perfect graduation rate (100% in 2023-2024), far exceeding district and state averages, yet its academic state rank has slipped from the 80th to the 66th percentile over five years. The main culprit is math—only 45% of students are proficient in Algebra 1, well below the district average of 66% and significantly trailing local rivals like Boca Raton Community High (73%), West Boca Raton High (74%), and Spanish River Community High (79%). However, the school shines in humanities, with 82% proficiency in U.S. History and strong English Language Arts scores that outpace both district and state averages. This subject-specific weakness suggests the school's challenges are focused rather than school-wide.

In the competitive Boca Raton landscape, Olympic Heights is the "good" option among "great" ones—it's the lowest-ranked of the four major public high schools, with Spanish River standing out as a 5-star school in the 91st percentile. Spending per student ($13,103) is mid-range among peers, so funding isn't the issue. A growing concern is chronic absenteeism, which has tripled from 5.9% to 20.5% in three years, a trend that could further pressure test scores. For parents, Olympic Heights offers a strong humanities education and an exceptional track record of getting students to graduation, but families should investigate math support programs and consider whether the school's academic rigor aligns with their child's needs, especially when compared to higher-ranked nearby options.

Open Quote Drugs are freely used and sold on school grounds, the school police do nothing or, when they do do something, it's like the 3 stooges doing a skit.

Girls are regularly stalked and assaulted by boys.

Teachers and guidance encourage kids to drop out rather than dare to bring the school's grade down. Close Quote
