Summary

Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, FL, is a public school serving 954 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Lee district, which faces district-wide challenges. The school has experienced a notable decline in recent years, dropping from a consistent 3-star rating to a 2-star rating, and now ranks in the 32nd percentile among Florida elementary schools. This downward trend is a key concern, especially when compared to nearby schools like Gulf Elementary School, which has been improving its ranking, and the Oasis Charter Elementary School-South and Oasis Elementary Charter School-North, which consistently rank in the top 400.

One of the most critical issues at Patriot is a high chronic absenteeism rate of 33.2%, which is significantly higher than the 10-11% rates at the nearby Oasis charter schools. This absenteeism is strongly linked to the school's academic struggles. While Patriot's English Language Arts (ELA) scores are a relative bright spot—with 3rd graders scoring above the district average—math performance is a major weakness. Math proficiency drops sharply as students get older, from 66% in 3rd grade to just 49% in 5th grade, well below the state average of 62%. This "grade-level slide" is more pronounced at Patriot than at higher-performing neighbors like Trafalgar Elementary School, where 5th-grade math proficiency is 66%.

Interestingly, Patriot is located just a quarter-mile from Skyline Elementary School, and the two schools are nearly identical in demographics, student-teacher ratios, and state rankings, suggesting the challenges are systemic to this area of Cape Coral. The school spends $10,291 per student, which is more than the high-performing Oasis charter schools but yields far worse results, indicating a poor return on investment. On a positive note, Patriot's 5th-grade science scores have historically outperformed the district, offering a potential area of strength to build upon. To improve, the school must focus on reversing the absenteeism trend and addressing why math instruction is failing to keep pace with ELA.

Open Quote The staff for the most part either dress inappropriately or are way under dressed. A lot of the staff are also very rude and they seem very unorganized. I've seen staff not only be rude to parents but to children as well. I heard a staff member talking down to a student about himself and his brother! My child hasn't gone here long and we will definitely be switching schools. Close Quote
