Open Quote Lots of hype for this "A" school but it's all just a numbers game that the administrators fudge. They'll Recategorize your kid if it suits them. Close Quote

Open Quote My family and I are new to the State. I went to Sickles High School to enroll my students and was told to return later (guidance closed at 1:30). I returned the next day around noon and inquired about enrolling my students from a guidance counselor. This lady was my first impression of this school, and I must say it was not a very good first impression. She told me I should come back next week, mentioned how busy she was, rolled her eyes, took deep sighs, and when I just stood there, she finally registered my students (however, not before talking loudly to another staff member in the other room about her annoyance of having to enroll them). It was so bad that even my teenagers commented on how rude this counselor was. If my students behave this way at school, they would probably be disciplined. I am also an educator, but I view students as the reason I have employment, not distractions or problems for us to "deal with". The jobs of educators, counselors, administration staff, etc are so very important. I am hoping this was just a very bad day for this horrible behavior displayed by the counselor (the exception and not the rule). After several minutes (approximately 15 mins), the counselor changed her tone and was then very helpful; however, the first impression has been established.
On a more positive note, I also met an administrator that day who was very pleasant and helpful. Close Quote
