Summary

Atlantic Beach Elementary School is a high-performing public school in Atlantic Beach, FL, serving 482 students in grades PK-5 and consistently earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger, ranking in the top 7% of elementary schools statewide. This school stands out for its exceptional academic results, with math proficiency rates soaring to 96% for 3rd graders and 87% for 4th graders in the 2025-2026 school year—far above the Duval district averages of 61% and state averages of 66% and 65%, respectively. Science scores are equally impressive, with 82% of 5th graders proficient, compared to just 56% district-wide and 60% statewide. English Language Arts performance is also strong, with all grade levels scoring between 77% and 79% proficient, well above district and state averages.

One of the most telling differentiators is the school's low chronic absenteeism rate of 18.4% in 2023-2024, which is less than half the district's rate of 44.8% and significantly lower than the state average of 31.4%. This high attendance rate is a strong indicator of student and family engagement and is a key driver of the school's academic success. In fact, chronic absenteeism is the strongest predictor of performance among nearby schools: the top-ranked beachside schools, including Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach Elementary School, and San Pablo Elementary School, all have the lowest absenteeism rates, while lower-ranked schools like Seaside Charter K-8 School and Mayport Elementary School have rates as high as 48.7% and 36.6%.

Atlantic Beach Elementary also demonstrates efficient spending, with per-student costs of $10,306—moderate compared to peers like Neptune Beach Elementary School ($14,460) and Abess Park Elementary School ($13,387)—yet achieving far superior academic results. While the school is a clear standout, there is a slight dip in math proficiency as students move from 3rd to 5th grade (96% to 78%), suggesting an area for continued focus. Overall, Atlantic Beach Elementary is a top-tier choice for families, offering a strong academic foundation in a highly engaged community.

Open Quote We have our daughter at ABE. We have found the teacher's and administration's engagement to be outstanding. Everyone knows your child by first name and is invested in their success. We have a very involved PTA aswell. She loves the school and has learned leadership skills in addition to academics. Close Quote

Open Quote My son has been dealing with issues since we started him at Atlantic Beach. They have a serious Mold issue and they keep trying to cover it up. My son comes home everyday with headaches. His teacher is AMAZING but after seeing multiple students becoming sick from this school is heart wrenching. Even the teachers are sick! This school needs to be torn down and rebuilt! Do not recommend MOLD ISSUES! Close Quote

Open Quote We are Midwestern transplants coming from terrific Blue Ribbon schools. We were moving to Atlantic Beach and we were very concerned with the reputation of the public schools. We prefer sending our children to school with neighborhood kids but we were willing to do whatever it takes to give our kids a great educational experience. We spent considerable time researching the private, parochial and the public school opportunities for our children and after interviewing parents and faculty who seemed equally committed to great education (and who raved about ABE), we chose to send our daughter to Atlantic Beach Elementary. It was a very good decision for us. She continued getting straight A’s, she scored 5’s on the FCAT and was elected to Student Council. We are very satisfied with our decision and thrilled to be a part of such a dynamic community.
