Summary

Itech@thomas A Edison Educational Center is a small, specialized high school in Miami, FL, serving 230 students in grades 9-12 within the Miami-Dade school district, where a significant portion of students come from low-income backgrounds.

This school stands out as a true academic powerhouse, ranking in the 95th percentile statewide for the 2025-2026 school year—a dramatic rise from the 38th percentile just five years ago. Its test scores are exceptional: 93% of 10th graders are proficient in English Language Arts, 92% in Biology, and 88% in Geometry. These results far surpass nearby schools like Miami Edison Senior High School (23rd percentile) and Miami Jackson Senior High School (28th percentile), and even rival selective magnet schools such as Design & Architecture Senior High (86th percentile) and Miami Arts Charter School (91st percentile). The school also boasts a low chronic absenteeism rate of 21.6%, compared to 52% at Miami Edison Senior High, and a graduation rate consistently above 94%.

What makes Itech particularly remarkable is that it achieves these results with a student body where 65.65% qualify for free or reduced lunch, while many similarly high-performing schools serve far fewer economically disadvantaged students. The school’s success is a testament to its focused, specialized program and instructional model, which delivers strong proficiency across all subjects—Math, English, Science, and History. While its per-student spending of $19,700 is higher than the district average, the investment yields outstanding outcomes, making Itech a standout example of how a small, dedicated school can transform academic performance for a diverse student population.

Open Quote These rating are very misleading as the school strategically gets rid of students by returning them to their parent school in order to boost test scores. Close Quote

Open Quote The new administration harasses teachers and students and forces students to write false statements about teachers. The AP thinks he's in charge and bullies the kids and hates it when students write the superintendent. School is alright depending on if you like drama between the administration and teachers. The school has nothing to offer honestly. The students are great though. Some Close Quote
