Summary

Dr. Manuel C. Barreiro Elementary School is a public elementary school (PK-5) in Miami, FL, serving 530 students within the Miami-Dade County Public School District, and it has recently surged to the 96th percentile statewide, ranking #81 out of 2,240 elementary schools in Florida.

Barreiro Elementary stands out for its exceptional and consistent academic performance, achieving proficiency rates of 80% or higher in every subject and grade level tested in the most recent year. Math is a particular strength, with 5th-grade math proficiency at an incredible 94%, while 3rd and 4th grade math both hit 90%. Science is a major differentiator, with 5th-grade proficiency at 76%—16 points above the state average and notably higher than nearby high-performing schools like Ethel Koger Beckham K-8 Center (67%) and Pinecrest Academy (South Campus) (69%). The school also boasts the lowest chronic absenteeism rate among its nearby peers at just 12.8%, which is less than half the district average of 28.2% and significantly lower than schools like Pinecrest Preparatory Academy (20.5%) and Kendale Lakes Elementary School (21.3%).

Interestingly, Barreiro’s success is not driven by higher spending, as it spends $14,752 per student—less than Bent Tree Elementary School ($22,412) but more than Pinecrest Academy South ($9,520), which still ranks higher. The school has experienced a powerful resurgence, jumping from the 77th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 96th percentile for 2025-2026, suggesting effective leadership and targeted interventions are paying off. While Barreiro serves a relatively affluent student body (34.91% on free/reduced lunch), nearby schools like Pinecrest Preparatory Academy achieve similar high rankings with a much higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students (60%), highlighting a different kind of excellence. Just 0.46 miles away, Academir Preparatory of Championsgate (in the Osceola district) ranks in the 38th percentile with a 44.6% chronic absenteeism rate, underscoring the extreme variability in school quality even within the same neighborhood.

Open Quote Me and my son love this school. All is about a Disney Cruise and they let the imagination flies around the school. The staff is amazing and super friendly, Mrs. Correa the principal is there every morning receiving her students with love. Also Mrs Ares, Cottegano, Mrs Cruz from after school. All the staff is super cool. Close Quote

Open Quote I agree with some of the comments about this school. The facility is brand new, the school is up to par with technology, but the quality of the teachers is average or below average. Many of the teachers in this school are still very young and unexperienced, they worry about what they are wearing and not what they need to be teaching their students. Also, they treat the parents as if we don't know what we're talking about and we are less then they are. Security is poor, they ask for ID when you go pick-up your kids when something goes wrong, otherwise, anyone can pick them up. If I could, I would transfer my kids to a different school. I rate this school a "C". Close Quote
