Summary

Green Mountain High School is a comprehensive public high school in Lakewood, Colorado, serving 1,071 students in grades 9–12 as part of Jefferson County School District R-1. The school's standout strength is its exceptional graduation rate of 97.4% in 2024–25, far exceeding the district's 86.7% and the state's 85.6%, paired with an extremely low dropout rate. Reading and writing are also relative bright spots, with 71% of 11th graders proficient on the SAT reading/writing section—above the statewide average of 60% and right at the district's 70%.

Math, however, is a clear weak spot. Green Mountain High School trails its own district at every grade level tested, with just 40% of 11th graders proficient in SAT math versus 42% districtwide. This is a sharp reversal from 2022–23, when the school's 54% SAT math proficiency easily beat the district's 46%. Nearby Lakewood High School has now overtaken Green Mountain on every math measure. Science has also declined steeply, dropping from 59% proficiency in 2022–23 to 40% in 2025–26, though it still sits above the state average of 24.8%. Perhaps most concerning, chronic absenteeism jumped from 22.5% to 31.8% in a single year—worse than both the district and state averages.

The school's state ranking has slipped from 79th to 110th over the past few years. Results vary by student group: female students perform at the 71st percentile statewide, while male, low-income, and disabled students sit near the 50th percentile, and gifted students rank at just the 43rd percentile. By comparison, D'Evelyn Junior/Senior High School, just 3.8 miles away, ranks 1st in the state with near-universal proficiency. Yet rankings don't tell the whole story—Green Mountain's near-zero dropout rate and consistent 97%+ graduation rate show a school that genuinely keeps students on track to graduate.
