Clear Creek Elementary

Summary:

Clear Creek Elementary is a public elementary school in Grass Valley, California, serving 156 students from kindergarten to 8th grade. The school is part of the Clear Creek Elementary District, which is ranked 569 out of 1,568 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Clear Creek Elementary generally performs better than the state average in English Language Arts and Mathematics in the lower grades, its test scores decline in the upper grades, with 6th-8th grade students scoring below the state average in both subjects. Additionally, the school's science scores on the CAST exam are consistently below the state average across all grade levels. Notably, Clear Creek Elementary has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism rates, from 0.6% in 2017-2018 to 24.4% in 2022-2023, which is higher than nearby schools like Cottage Hill Elementary (22.6%) and Nevada City School of the Arts (34.6%).

While Clear Creek Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio compared to nearby schools, it also has a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 36.91% to 41.36% over the past few years. This suggests that the school may need to address potential equity concerns and ensure that all students, regardless of their socioeconomic background, have access to the resources and support they need to succeed. By learning from the successes of higher-performing schools in the region, Clear Creek Elementary can work to improve the educational outcomes for all of its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school has lost the magic it once had. The Principle, Mrs. Cramer, is simply there for her paycheck and not invested in the students' success. The teachers she has hired over the last couple of years have resulted in students learning a lot less. Parents are pulling their children, fleeing this school. It is depressing to watch this once great school being run into the ground. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
