Summary

Peabody Montessori Elementary School in Alexandria, LA, is a standout PK-6 school within the Rapides Parish school district, serving 466 students with a consistent track record of high academic performance that defies expectations.

Peabody Montessori is an academic powerhouse that consistently outperforms nearly every nearby school, creating what can only be described as a "Peabody Gap" in achievement. In the most recent school year, Peabody's proficiency rates were dramatically higher than the district and state averages: 82% in math (compared to 64% district and 62% state), 90% in English Language Arts (compared to 77% district and 70% state), and 76% in social studies (compared to 60% district and 55% state). To put this in perspective, nearby schools like Martin Park Elementary School (29% math), Horseshoe Drive Elementary School (31% math), and Alma Redwine Elementary (42% math) are far behind. Even more impressive, Peabody's performance rivals that of Phoenix Magnet Elementary School, a magnet school with a much lower poverty rate, suggesting that Peabody's Montessori approach is a powerful equalizer for its diverse student body.

What truly sets Peabody apart is its remarkable consistency and effectiveness with all students. The school has never ranked below the 86th percentile statewide over the past decade, earning 4-star or 5-star ratings every year. Its chronic absenteeism rate of just 2.3% is dramatically lower than the district (17.5%) and every single nearby school—for context, L.S. Rugg Elementary has a rate over 14 times higher at 42.0%. Peabody also excels with all student subgroups, with African American students ranking in the 90th percentile statewide and special education students ranking #1 in the entire state in 2022-2023. While there is a slight "6th grade dip" in scores, Peabody remains a beacon of excellence in a district where many schools struggle, proving that high-poverty schools can achieve elite academic results.

Open Quote I moved my child from a private, catholic school to this public montessori school. I was afraid my child would not comprehend the system. Boy, was I wrong! within a week, his 2nd grade teacher calls to tell me it appears as if my child has been there since day one. Not only did he grasp the concepts but actually enjoyed the independence. Peabody Montessori is an awesome school, from the moment you step out of your car on campus, you are greeted with warmth. The principal, Mrs Lindzay, knows every child by first and last name, including the parents. She is great!. They treat the children with such respect, care and discipline and the children take this behavior home. I can't say enough about this school. I am so glad my child is there and I am very happy the school has added a 6th grade. He now has 2 years left and he is so excited about returning to school for the next year, he actually hates school is out for the summer! :) Close Quote
