Summary

Barack Obama Elementary is a public elementary school in Richmond, Virginia, serving 280 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Richmond City Public Schools district, which is ranked 115 out of 129 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Barack Obama Elementary has consistently been ranked in the bottom half of Virginia elementary schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past 10 years. The school faces significant challenges, including high chronic absenteeism rates, low test scores compared to the district and state averages, and an extremely high percentage of students (98-100%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch. While the school's student-teacher ratio is relatively low, this does not appear to be translating into improved academic performance.

When compared to other nearby schools within the Richmond City Public Schools district, such as Linwood Holton Elementary and William Fox Elementary, Barack Obama Elementary generally performs worse on key metrics like test scores and chronic absenteeism. The performance gap is even more pronounced when compared to schools in the neighboring Henrico County Public Schools district, such as Laburnum Elementary and Glen Lea Elementary, which have higher test scores and lower chronic absenteeism rates.

Open Quote Great School! Students wear uniforms and classrooms are uniformed. This school offers afterschool programs, and activities for the majority of their students. What impressed me the most their PTA, community partnership and friendly atmosphere. I would recommend this school to anyone parent. Close Quote
