Summary

Northampton High is a public high school located in Eastville, Virginia, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 420 students. The school is part of the Northampton County Public Schools district, which is ranked 122 out of 129 districts in Virginia and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Northampton High has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Virginia high schools, ranging from 155th to 286th out of 325-328 schools over the past 10 years. The school's performance has been relatively stagnant, with a 1-star or 2-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past decade. While the school performs relatively well for English Language Learner (ELL) students, it struggles with other subgroups, such as African American, Hispanic, and Low Socioeconomic Status (SES) students, ranking in the bottom 25-30% of Virginia high schools for these groups.

Northampton High also faces significant challenges, including a high chronic absenteeism rate, which ranges from 15.7% to 30.2% over the past few years, much higher than the state average. The school's academic performance, as measured by SOL (Standards of Learning) test scores, is generally below the state average across most subject areas and grade levels. Additionally, Northampton High has a very high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 73.94% to 100% in recent years, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population. The school's relatively low per-student spending and higher student-teacher ratios compared to the state average may be limiting its ability to provide the necessary resources and support for its diverse student population.

Open Quote A very small, tight-knit community. The area is nice in the summer, and has very mild winters. The kids are isolated from the general cultures of city life, and for the most part are easy going and have relatively simple lives. It's a very nice school to go to if your child is above average or has special services. Class sizes are also smaller than average. I've seen classes mostly under 20 kids per adult. It's usually 10-15 per adult. Close Quote
