Summary

Caroline High is a public high school located in Milford, Virginia, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,278 students. The school is part of the Caroline County Public Schools district, which is ranked 103 out of 129 districts in Virginia and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Caroline High has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Virginia high schools over the past several years, with a ranking between 185 and 296 out of 325-329 schools. The school has maintained a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger, except for a brief period in 2017-2018 and 2015-2016 when it was rated 2 stars. While the school has a relatively high four-year graduation rate, it struggles with high chronic absenteeism rates and underperforms on standardized tests, particularly in subjects like World History, US History, and Earth Science. Nearby schools, such as Courtland High, Spotsylvania High, and Patrick Henry High, generally outperform Caroline High in terms of statewide rankings, test scores, and other key metrics.

The challenges faced by Caroline High may be partly attributed to its high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 79.19% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Additionally, the school's spending per student ($7,238 in 2020-2021) is lower than the state average and the spending of some nearby schools. Addressing these factors, along with the school's academic weaknesses, will be crucial in improving the overall performance and providing a high-quality education to the students at Caroline High.

Open Quote This school is terrible! They are not accredited, the school even though having recently undergone repairs, is in terrible condition. The restrooms are absolutely disgusting, their is an incredibly large racial divide in this school, and unfortunately it's largely within the administration. The communication is terrible, you'll feel very much like your child is going to school in the inner projects. The smell of sewage in the school is beyond disturbing, and anytime a parent complains to the administration in regards to ANYTHING, the response is always, "it's not in the budget". If you can afford private school and choose to live in this county, that will be the ONLY way your child will receive any type of actual education. If you have any other option, RUN do not walk, away from this school district. Close Quote
