Summary

Eloise Japhet Elementary is a PK-5 public school in the San Antonio Independent School District (Isd) serving 634 students, with over 91% qualifying for free or reduced lunch, and it has recently shown a remarkable turnaround from the bottom 10th percentile to the 28th percentile statewide.

The most exciting news for parents is that Eloise Japhet is a school on the rise. After years of struggling, it has climbed from the 3rd percentile (2020-2021) to its highest ranking in nearly a decade. This upward trend sets it apart from nearby schools like Herff Elementary, which has been stuck in the 1st percentile, and Charles C Ball Elementary, which has dropped to the 12th percentile. The school’s bilingual program is a standout strength: students taking the STAAR Spanish exam in math dramatically outperformed both the district and state averages in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. For example, 66.67% of 4th graders were proficient in Spanish math, compared to just 41.21% district-wide. This success extends to English Language Learners, who ranked in the 52nd percentile statewide—a huge win for a high-needs school.

While the school excels with ELL and low-income students, it has a critical area for improvement with Special Education students, who ranked in the bottom 2nd percentile. Still, Eloise Japhet is achieving these gains with efficient spending of $10,580 per student—less than nearby Green Elementary At Riverside Park ($17,134) and Smith Elementary ($13,761)—while outperforming them. Even compared to the area’s top school, Young Women's Leadership Academy Pri (71st percentile), Eloise Japhet’s progress is noteworthy because it serves a much more economically disadvantaged population. This is a school that has found a successful formula and is delivering real results for its community.
