Summary

Davis Middle is a public middle school in San Antonio, Texas, serving 443 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD), which is ranked 790 out of 961 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Unfortunately, Davis Middle has consistently ranked in the bottom 10% of Texas middle schools over the past decade, with a 0-star rating.

Academically, Davis Middle significantly underperforms compared to the SAISD district and the state of Texas in standardized test scores across all subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 15.49% of 7th-grade students at Davis Middle were proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to 33.93% for SAISD and 51.69% for Texas. The school also struggles to effectively serve its diverse student population, ranking in the bottom 10-15% of Texas middle schools for African American, Hispanic, White, and Economically Disadvantaged student subgroups.

While the challenges faced by Davis Middle may be systemic within the SAISD district, as evidenced by the slightly better but still low-performing nearby schools like Hot Wells Middle and Edgar Allan Poe STEM Dual Language Middle, the school's high rates of economic disadvantage, as indicated by the over 96% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, may be a significant factor contributing to its low academic performance. Addressing the unique needs of this student population, both academically and socio-emotionally, could be crucial for improving outcomes at Davis Middle.

Open Quote Being a former teacher at Davis Middle School there have been experiences that has led me to regret accepting a position at this campus. The environment at this school is completely unsafe, and that is due to the administration. The principal, Sharene Dixon, has neglected in supporting the teachers and the students. She has created an environment that is toxic and forced teachers to either resign or relocate to different schools. She was unprofessional during faculty meetings and even cussed at our employees. She has talked badly about teachers who she did not like and reassured to those that are closest to her that these teachers that she did not like, were not going to have a place next year. The teachers that she referred to were the most passionate people. They were passionate about the curriculum being taught and their students. She sets the example for bullying. There were times where she made the environment so hostile that some staff were intimidated to be in the same hall as her. Aside of providing intervention to students who needed it the most, she suspended them or even allowed arrests. She does not care about the students, and only cares for money and bullying others. The saddest thing is that there is so much more wrong doing... So I suggest and advise, for the safety of your child, do not send them to this school where she is in leadership. Close Quote
