Summary

Patsy Sommer Elementary is a high-performing public school in the Avery Ranch area of Austin, TX, serving 817 students from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade as part of the top-rated Round Rock Independent School District (Isd).

This school is an academic powerhouse, consistently ranking in the top 1% of all elementary schools in Texas over the past decade. In the 2025-2026 school year, it ranked 23rd out of 4,627 schools statewide. Its STAAR test scores are dominant, with reading proficiency rates around 90% and math proficiency rates averaging 87%—far exceeding both district and state averages. The school is also exceptionally effective at serving diverse student groups, ranking in the top 1-2% of the state for Hispanic Students, English Language Learners, and At-Risk Students. Notably, the school has shown a remarkable turnaround for its economically disadvantaged students, moving from the 63rd percentile in 2022-2023 to the 98th percentile in 2025-2026, indicating highly effective interventions.

Patsy Sommer stands out even among its excellent neighbors. While Cactus Ranch Elementary is a close competitor (ranked 21st), Patsy Sommer has a slight edge in 4th and 5th-grade reading proficiency. The contrast is even starker with Brushy Creek Elementary, located less than a mile away, which ranks in the 85th percentile and has significantly lower test scores. Interestingly, Patsy Sommer's success is not driven by higher spending; its per-student spending ($7,442) is lower than many lower-performing nearby schools, suggesting its achievements stem from a supportive community and effective teaching.

Open Quote I LOVE this school. My son oes to KG@Patsy Sommer in Mrs. Stroh's class. I am very happy on what he has learned in just one year. His teacher takes personal interests in children and keeps parents informed. We love Mr. Pratz (principal of the school). he is very loving and welcoming. My son loves him. They have a good rules and reward policy for good and bad student behaviors.

Overall, i am very pleased with the school, the content they are teaching and keeping parents involved. Close Quote
