Summary

Prairie Creek Elementary in Richardson, TX, is a small, elite public school serving 304 students in grades PK through 6 within the Richardson Independent School District (Isd).

Prairie Creek is a standout performer, consistently ranking among the very best elementary schools in Texas. Over the last decade, it has never ranked below the 98th percentile statewide, and in the most recent school year, it placed 37th out of over 4,600 elementary schools. Its STAAR test scores are extraordinary, with math proficiency rates ranging from 84% to 97% and reading from 79% to 92%—often 30 to 55 percentage points higher than state averages. For example, 6th-grade math proficiency (95%) is more than double the state average (38%). The school also excels with all student subgroups, ranking in the 100th percentile for both Special Education and Gifted & Talented students. With a favorable student-teacher ratio of 11.9:1, the school provides a highly supportive learning environment.

Compared to nearby schools, Prairie Creek is in a class of its own. The next closest high-performing schools are Mohawk Elementary (97th percentile) and Canyon Creek Elementary (94th percentile), while most other area schools, like Northrich Elementary (24th percentile) and Mark Twain Elementary (48th percentile), rank much lower. Even the specialized Math/Science/Technical Magnet school, which performs well (92nd-96th percentile), is outperformed by Prairie Creek in nearly every subject. While the school’s science scores, though above average, have shown some variability, and its performance with "At Risk" students has been inconsistent, Prairie Creek remains a clear leader—a true "pocket of excellence" within the district and one of the top elementary schools in the entire state.
