Summary

Frankford Middle in Dallas, TX, is a 6-8 grade campus within the highly-rated Plano Independent School District (Isd), serving 839 students. However, the school has experienced a significant decline in academic standing over the past decade, dropping from the 82nd percentile in 2015-2016 to the 38th percentile by 2025-2026. This downward trend sets it apart from nearby peers like Robinson Middle (94th percentile) and Schimelpfenig Middle (89th percentile), which have remained consistently high-performing.

A major concern is Frankford's performance in 7th-grade math, where only 7.27% of students were proficient in 2025-2026—far below the state average of 29.41%. This is a persistent issue, with proficiency rates hovering around 5-7% in recent years. Interestingly, the school excels in advanced coursework: 94.92% of students taking Algebra I passed, well above the district average of 59.54%. This creates a "barbell effect," where a small group of high-achieving students thrives while the majority struggles. Additionally, the school's dropout rate of 2.0% is more than double the district average and higher than any nearby middle school, including Wilson Middle (0.5%), which serves a similar demographic profile.

Despite these challenges, Frankford has favorable resources, including a low student-teacher ratio of 12.3:1 and higher per-student spending ($8,867) than top-performing peers like Robinson ($8,036). This suggests the issues are not due to funding or class size but may relate to instructional strategies or support systems. The school's success with Algebra I students and its strong foundation in resources provide a base for improvement, but a fundamental shift is needed to reverse the decline and better serve all students equitably.

Open Quote Our son has finished up his 2nd year at Frankford Middle School and we’ve had such a good experience so far. We have seen a marked improvement since our start here. We value the offerings of a large district with smaller class sizes on the campus. Principal Vargas and his team are available and involved in the parent community and the students daily lives. The teachers and staff have been fantastic and responsive when we have questions or concerns. We’ve also met some great families during our time and can't wait to see what happens in our son's journey here. Close Quote

Open Quote Our family has been very happy with Frankford Middle School this year. All the teachers my child has had have been very strong and have challenged her academically. Their administrative team seems to have put together an excellent team of staff and focused on growth among all students. I understand many of the teachers have been at this campus for 10+ years and bring a lot of experience with them. We have seen huge improvement in our daughter's growth and scores since she started here in the fall. Love that it is a smaller campus with smaller class sizes. We have also met lots of new families who are very engaged and involved with the school. The PTA does a lot for the students and teachers, with good volunteer opportunities for parents to stay connected. Overall, we have been very pleased! Close Quote

Open Quote This is our first year at Frankford, and we have been beyond pleased! I went in a little unsure about the transition to middle school, but the teachers and staff have been amazing, the communication has been wonderful, and my daughter has made lots of new friends. I have enjoyed getting to know the other families as well and have volunteered at some of the events throughout the year. It has really exceeded my expectations in every aspect! Close Quote
