Summary

C J Harris Elementary is a PK-4 school in Pearland, TX, serving 549 students as part of the highly-rated Pearland Independent School District (Isd), which ranks in the 92nd percentile statewide. The school has a 3-star rating for the 2025-2026 school year, a decline from its consistent 4-star performance between 2016 and 2020, and about 49% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

One of the most notable features of C J Harris is its uneven performance across subjects. The school consistently meets or exceeds the state average in Reading for 3rd and 4th grades, but its Mathematics scores are more volatile and often fall below the state average. For example, in 2025-2026, 4th Grade Reading proficiency was 57.52% (state: 53.04%), while 4th Grade Math was also 57.52% (state: 49.28%). However, the school trails its district peers significantly in math, with a 14-point gap in 3rd Grade Math compared to the Pearland ISD average. This is a stark contrast to nearby Shadycrest Elementary, which has maintained stable math scores around 73-75% over the same period. Despite these challenges, C J Harris still outperforms many schools from neighboring districts, such as Iltexas Pearland Elementary and H C Carleston Elementary, in reading.

The school excels with specific student groups, ranking in the 96th percentile for Gifted and Talented students and the 93rd percentile for English Language Learners in recent years. This suggests highly effective specialized programs, yet the overall rank is dragged down by performance with its general education population. The school spends $10,271 per student, higher than high-performing peers like Shadycrest ($9,718) and Magnolia Elementary ($9,642), indicating that resource allocation and instructional strategy may be key areas for improvement rather than funding levels.

Open Quote I wish I could give more stars but there seems to be a major problem among 1st grade staff and their attitudes. Not only do I currently have concerns, but it is personally known that other parents who had 1st graders last school year had to move their students to a new classroom or change schools altogether. It’s unfortunate because my kiddo had a great time in Kindergarten, though the year was cut short. Close Quote
