Summary

Taft High School is a public magnet high school in San Antonio, Texas, serving 2,719 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Northside Independent School District. The school has maintained a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past several years, ranking between 636-671 out of around 1,900-1,970 Texas high schools during this period.

Taft High School stands out for its consistently high 4-year graduation rates, ranging from 92.8% to 97.8% in recent years, as well as its relatively low dropout rates of 0.3% to 1.2%. Students at Taft generally perform better than the district and state averages on STAAR End-of-Course exams, particularly in Biology, English II Reading, and U.S. History. However, the school's Asian student subgroup has struggled, ranking in the bottom 40-60% of Texas high schools.

Compared to nearby schools, Taft High School outperforms Marshall High School and Stevens High School on key metrics, but lags behind higher-performing schools like Brandeis High School, Harlan High School, and O'Connor High School, which are also part of the Northside Independent School District. This may be due to a combination of factors, including socioeconomic status, funding, and student-teacher ratios.
