Summary

Pease Middle in San Antonio, TX, serves 691 students in grades 6-8 within the Northside Independent School District (Isd), and is located in a community where about 74% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Pease Middle has consistently ranked in the bottom 12-31% of Texas middle schools over the past decade, with overall academic performance significantly below district and state averages. The most critical area is mathematics, where only 2.65% of 7th graders were proficient in the most recent school year—far below the state average of 29.41% and the lowest among nearby schools like Jones Middle and Jordan Middle. However, there is a notable "Algebra I Paradox": students accelerated into Algebra I perform competitively with the state, with 43% proficient, suggesting that while general math instruction struggles, advanced coursework can succeed. The school also shows relative strength in serving Special Education and English Language Learner students, ranking in the 40th and 41st percentiles respectively, compared to its overall 12th percentile rank.

Despite higher per-student spending ($9,264) than higher-performing peers like Vale Middle ($7,980) and a favorable student-teacher ratio of 12.4, Pease has not found a sustainable path to improvement, with recent rankings declining back to the 11th-12th percentile after a brief recovery. The contrast with nearby Basis San Antonio - Jack Lewis Junior Campus, a charter school ranking in the 91st percentile with proficiency rates of 75-87% in reading, highlights the significant challenges Pease faces. The school's success with specific subgroups offers a potential foundation for broader improvement, but a strategic shift in instruction is urgently needed to address the persistent low performance for its core demographic of economically disadvantaged students.

Open Quote If you have the choice do not let your child attend here. Terrible teachers, lots of fights, no organization. This is the worst school. Close Quote

Open Quote I go to this poor excuse of what they call a "school" Monday-Friday. Some of the teachers everyone hates , even us smart kids. the teachers are also blind to what happens right in front of them. Buildings are pretty old and poorly designed, I'm pretty sure this school has asbestos still in it. Lots of drug deals, fights and other things at this school. The football field is covered in weeds and has dried out spots.

So overall this school is horrible and really needs to be improved

Open Quote When my child goes to an administrator about being bullied 4 times by the same individual, the administrator should do something to stop it.nothing was ever done and it continued to happen for months until I taught my daughter physically how to defend herself & told her to do so! You're supposed to protect the children from being bullied and it's not being done asst pease that's for sure! When someone places an order for a specific size for an item sold at the school give it to them. Don't give my child a different size which has happened every single time because you think your my child's mother & can make that decision on what size she wears! Both times in which they were wrong by the way!Stop injuring children on the bus because you can't hire competent bus drivers and they drive terrible causing injuries to students, twice in which was to my daughter. Worry more about giving the children an education than policing them! This school treats kids like convicts, not students! I will hopefully not have to subject my daughter to this poor excuse of a school next year. Close Quote

Open Quote Teachers are working hard to educate students who are rude, unmannerly, disrespectful of other students, teachers and the school in general. Students throw trash on the floor, vandalize computer equipment, skip classes, fight, bully and more. Parent support is almost unheard of. Administration changes may help some but without parental support such as disciplining their children, enforces study time, bed time, tv time etc then they are fighting a losing cause. Close Quote

Open Quote This school has a terrible problem with bullying and a very un-responsive administration. They are good at platitudes but poor at action. The teachers are gone more than they are there. There are few days that go by that my daughter doesn't have a substitute in at least one class. The language used by the kids waiting outside the school is deplorable, and ignored. Close Quote
