Summary

Jordan Middle in San Antonio, TX, is a mid-sized public school serving 948 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Northside Independent School District (Isd), and it has recently shown a promising turnaround, jumping from the 39th to the 55th percentile in state rankings—a 16-point gain that outpaces nearby schools like Zachry Middle and Connally Middle, which have remained stagnant or declined.

One of Jordan’s standout strengths is its consistent excellence in Algebra I, where proficiency rates hover around 53-60%, outperforming both the district and state averages, while nearby Jones Middle has seen a dramatic drop from 82% to 31% in recent years. The school also excels in supporting Special Education students, ranking in the 61st to 69th percentile statewide for three consecutive years—a rare achievement compared to many schools. However, Jordan faces a significant challenge in grade-level math, with 7th-grade proficiency at just 6.67% and 8th-grade at 26.16%, both well below state averages, though this is a systemic issue shared by peers like Vale Middle and Pease Middle.

Despite academic struggles in math, Jordan maintains an exceptionally low dropout rate, often at 0.0%, which is far better than the district average and schools like Jubilee School Of Innovation And Arts (3.6%) or Lighthouse Middle (2.9%), suggesting a positive school culture that keeps students engaged. A critical area for improvement is the dramatic decline in performance for English Language Learner students, which dropped from the 65th to the 11th percentile, and consistently low outcomes for Asian students, which warrant attention. While a high-performing charter like Basis San Antonio - Jack Lewis Junior Campus (91st percentile) offers a stark contrast in academic achievement, Jordan’s recent rebound and strong reading instruction make it a solid choice for families seeking a supportive environment with targeted strengths.

Open Quote Jordan Middle School is ok. I just don't like the way the front office treats parents. As a parent you try and work with the school and I wish the school, teachers and administrators as well would remember that. Close Quote

Open Quote I'm sure like most parents, sending my child off to sixth grade made me a bit nervous. It's been a few weeks and everything has been smooth sailing. My daughter had an easy transition. I understand the school tries to separate the 6th graders from the other grades. It helped keep my daughter focus on her work and kept the stress level down. Her first progress report was all A's. She has homework every day along with reading. Pre-AP classes are offered. There's a good amount of paperwork sent home to keep parents informed along with computer/phone apps that can be utilized for easy follow up on grades and attendance. Close Quote
