Summary

McKamy Middle in Flower Mound, TX, is a high-performing public school serving 757 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Lewisville Independent School District (Isd), consistently ranking in the top 5% of all Texas middle schools.

McKamy stands out for its exceptional academic performance across all core subjects, with near-perfect Algebra I proficiency rates (99-100%) for three consecutive years. In the most recent testing, the school achieved 82-88% proficiency in reading, 90% in 8th-grade math, and 65% in 8th-grade social studies—all dramatically higher than district and state averages. This consistency sets McKamy apart from nearby schools like Huffines Middle and Marshall Durham Middle, which rank in the bottom 10% of the state. While Briarhill Middle is also high-performing, its 8th-grade math proficiency (69.5%) is significantly lower than McKamy's (89.9%). The school also maintains a perfect 0.0% dropout rate for the last five years, reflecting a strong culture of student support.

An interesting pattern is the "7th-grade math dip" seen across the district, where McKamy's 7th-grade math proficiency (23.5%) falls below the state average (29.4%), despite excelling in every other subject. For context, Carroll Middle in the nearby Carroll Independent School District (Isd) outperforms McKamy in 8th-grade reading (89.6% vs. 88%), though McKamy's math is slightly higher (89.9% vs. 82.7%). McKamy achieves its top-tier results with lower per-student spending ($8,961) compared to lower-performing schools, suggesting efficient resource use. The school also earns 5-star ratings for serving diverse subgroups, including Hispanic, Multi-racial, Special Education, and Gifted & Talented students, though support for low-socioeconomic-status students is an area for continued focus.

Open Quote McKamy is fine for your typical student but, sadly enough, if your child is gifted and talented they offer very little. Their "Pre-Ap" classes are, as a whole, very weak. They do not have strong teachers teaching these advanced students. For example, my child's pre ap science class has done nothing but write papers and do presentations and dress like a scientist. Seriously, this is an 8th grade class. Not second grade. Playing dress up is ridiculous! If your child thinks outside the box they are punished for being disruptive. My child is so bored that he/she says they cannot control themselves. This is a child who scored a 22 on his/her ACT test in the 7th grade! Rather then address the larger issue at hand, the fact they are failing these children on a very basic educational level, they put these kids in in school suspension and threaten to expel them for behavior. Rather then say, okay, let's see what we can do to keep this child engaged, they teach down to them. The fact that not only do I pay an exorbitant amount of property taxes for this "education" but that I am going to have to pay for private school in order to make sure my child is successful is disgusting.
