Summary

Prairie Trail Elementary in Flower Mound, TX, is a solidly performing school serving 672 students in grades PK through 5 as part of the Lewisville Independent School District (Isd), a district ranked in the top third of Texas.

Prairie Trail has earned a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger for five consecutive years, placing it in the top 20% of Texas elementary schools. Its most notable academic strength is in 5th-grade mathematics, where 81.13% of students were proficient in the 2025-2026 school year—a rate that outperforms every nearby school, including Stem Academy At Bridlewood Elementary and Forest Vista Elementary. The school also shows exceptional support for its African American students, ranking 1st out of 2,443 schools statewide in 2023-2024. While Prairie Trail is a strong choice, it is surrounded by several 5-star schools like Flower Mound Elementary and McAuliffe Elementary that rank higher overall, making it a reliable but not top-tier option in its immediate area.

With 25.6% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, Prairie Trail is more socioeconomically diverse than many of its neighbors, such as Bridlewood (3.87%) and Heritage Elementary (6.09%). The school’s performance on Spanish-language STAAR tests shows a mixed pattern, with lower scores in 3rd grade but strong improvement by 4th grade. However, support for Gifted and Talented students has been inconsistent, dropping from the 97th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 62nd percentile in 2025-2026. For families seeking a larger, more diverse school community with a proven track record and a standout math program, Prairie Trail is a solid choice.

Open Quote The principal creates a very unwelcoming and cold environment. While the teachers are great, this sets the tone for the school. In comparison to other schools in the district this school is one of the least desirable options. If you want a school with a fun learning environment where you feel like you are welcome anytime, keep looking. Close Quote
