This school has shown remarkable academic growth over the past decade, climbing from the 39th percentile statewide in 2015-2016 to the 87th percentile in 2025-2026, earning a consistent 4-star rating. The school also serves its Low Socio-Economic Status students exceptionally well, ranking in the 81st percentile statewide in 2025-2026, demonstrating strong effectiveness in closing achievement gaps. While the school's Special Education students achieved a remarkable 99th percentile ranking in 2023-2024, this performance has been inconsistent, with rankings in the mid-50s in other recent years.

One area for improvement is 5th-grade Science, where proficiency was 35.59% in 2024-2025—though this still exceeds the district average of 24.95%, it lags behind top-performing neighbors like Helms Elementary (64.91%). The school's free/reduced lunch rate has declined from 45.05% to 35.23% over recent years, reflecting a changing demographic landscape that contrasts sharply with nearby Gregory-Lincoln Educational Center (90.44% poverty rate, 25th percentile), highlighting Memorial's success in supporting its diverse student body.

Open Quote New Principal and assistant principal are unsupportive of staff, parents and students, out of date in current literacy/math strategies and research and unskilled to carry out what a school needs to keep moving up. They yell at students and teachers, diminishing both in public and in private. They don't believe or trust in their students or staff. More than 85% of their awesome teachers left this year because of poor admistration. Very sad to see HISD still allows this type of practices in the 21st century. Close Quote
