Summary

Field Elementary is a high-performing PK-5 public school in the Houston Heights area, serving 507 students within the Houston Independent School District (Isd). This school consistently ranks among the top 5% of all elementary schools in Texas, earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for the 2025-2026 school year. What makes Field particularly impressive is that it achieves these elite results with a more diverse student body than its top-performing neighbors—about 42% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, compared to just 11% at Harvard Elementary and 14% at Travis Elementary, the other two schools in the area that also rank in the 92nd percentile or higher.

Field stands out for its remarkable consistency across all grades and subjects. In the most recent testing year, proficiency rates in both Reading and Math for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders ranged from 71% to 81%—a level of uniform excellence that no other nearby school matches. For comparison, Helms Elementary, while still a strong school, shows a wider spread in scores from 54% to 77%. Field also achieves these results with a student-teacher ratio of 17.5, which is higher than many lower-performing nearby schools like Looscan Elementary (13.4) and Browning Elementary (12.7), suggesting the school is highly effective at leveraging its resources.

One area where Field truly excels is in its performance for White students, who ranked 10th out of over 3,000 schools statewide—the highest subgroup ranking for any demographic at any nearby school. However, the school serves all student groups well, with all subgroups ranking in the 93rd percentile or higher. The only potential area for improvement is 5th-grade Science, where proficiency rates (61%) are still well above district and state averages but not as dominant as Reading and Math scores. Overall, Field Elementary is an exceptional choice for families seeking a consistently high-performing school in a diverse, urban setting.

Open Quote We have been at Field Elementary for three years and really enjoy it! The main reason we are there is because it is our neighborhood school and can easily walk to it. Also, the teachers were a HUGE factor in our decision. They are fantastic and really care about the students and their performance without getting too intense about standardized testing. The administration has an open door policy and is very willing to listen to comments and suggestions.

While the school may not have all of the bells and whistles of the more privileged schools, they have Recipes for Success, Writers in the Schools, an incredible music program, an established Gifted and Talented program and very dedicated staff. It's definitely the school for us! Close Quote
