Summary

Crockett Elementary is a PK-5 school in the Houston Independent School District (Isd) serving 482 students, and it stands out as a school on a strong upward trajectory, having rebounded from a low point to a solid 64th percentile ranking in the 2025-2026 school year. This turnaround is particularly impressive when compared to nearby schools like Martinez C Elementary and Gregory-Lincoln Educational Center, which have consistently struggled, or elite performers like Travis Elementary and Harvard Elementary, which serve a much more affluent population. Crockett’s value lies in achieving above-average results with a diverse student body where about 65% of students are economically disadvantaged, making it a unique "bridge" option in a highly polarized neighborhood.

One of the most exciting findings is Crockett’s exceptional support for specific student groups. In the most recent data, the school ranks in the 87th percentile for its effectiveness with African American students, placing it in the top 13% of the state—a dramatic improvement from just two years prior. Similarly, Crockett earns a 4-star rating for its work with low-income students, ranking in the 73rd percentile, which significantly outperforms nearby schools with similar or higher poverty rates, such as Ketelsen Elementary and Sherman Elementary. This suggests the school has implemented targeted strategies that are effectively closing achievement gaps for its student population.

Academically, Crockett has shown a remarkable "5th Grade Math & Science" phenomenon, where 5th-grade math proficiency surged from 27.85% to 60.32% in just one year, now outperforming district and state averages. This points to a highly effective new curriculum or teacher at that grade level. However, parents should be aware of some volatility, particularly in the school’s special education program, which has fluctuated wildly from a 72nd percentile ranking to a 5th percentile and back to a 63rd percentile over three years. Additionally, while English test scores are solid, Spanish-language test scores lag behind, especially when compared to a specialized school like Wharton K-8 Dual Language Academy, which excels in that area. Overall, Crockett is a school that has proven it can turn things around and deliver strong results for its community.

Open Quote Do not send your kid to this school! Last year my son only learned reading and math. Those were the STAAR subjects for 3rd grade. He got no history or writing! And they make them sit silent during lunch. My son cried every day asking me to not make him go. Now he go to a good school and he loves his teachers. Close Quote

Open Quote Crockett is a toxic place where excellent teachers get burned out due to the leader's lack of leadership. She claims to be a christian but fails to display those principles in her attitude and her inappropriate attire (tight clothes like she's going to the club). Close Quote
