Summary

Cross Timbers Middle in Grapevine, TX, serves 820 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the highly-rated Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (Isd), earning a 4-star rating and ranking in the 90th percentile statewide for the 2025-2026 school year.

This school stands out for its exceptional performance in advanced coursework, particularly in Algebra I and Biology End-of-Course exams, where proficiency rates far exceed district and state averages. For example, Algebra I proficiency is 95%, which is 32 points higher than the district average and 41 points higher than the state average. Reading proficiency is also a consistent strength across all grade levels, with rates between 74% and 76%, significantly outpacing the state average. However, math performance shows a "tale of two programs": 7th-grade math proficiency is a weakness at 23%, below the district average, while 8th-grade math is a strength at 77%, outperforming the district and state. Compared to nearby schools, Cross Timbers outperforms Grapevine Middle (ranked 64th percentile) but is closely competitive with Colleyville Middle and Heritage Middle (both ranked 93rd percentile), though it excels in advanced math and science metrics.

A key challenge for Cross Timbers is addressing equity gaps for certain student groups, including Hispanic students, low socio-economic status students, and English Language Learners, who perform below state averages. In contrast, the school achieves strong results for Asian, White, Multi-racial, and African American students, with the latter showing significant improvement to the 90th percentile. The school maintains a very low dropout rate, indicating strong student retention. Overall, Cross Timbers is a high-performing school with a clear strength in advanced coursework and reading, but it has room to grow in ensuring all students achieve at the same high level.

Open Quote I had one child go through and one child currently enrolled. The principal and teachers are phenomenal. They do a great job of making the students feel welcome and valued. It is easy to get lost in middle school and these educators place importance on finding a place for every child. Close Quote

Open Quote The athletic program for the girls is one of the worst coaching I have ever seen. We have coaches that no nothing about coaching because they have never been athletes so how are they going to know a game without playing it? Why does the district spend our taxpayers money on people that are not qualified to do it? The girls have no direction, motivation,no structure, no coaches(just losers that are there to get a check). When will the district do something to make a better girls athletic program? Ask Ryan he is running the district? Maybe he needs to replaced and hire someone that is real aggressive in finding and and hiring the best coaches. Close Quote
