Summary

Sem Elementary in Frisco, TX, is a highly-rated school serving 561 students in grades PK through 5, and is part of the top-tier Frisco Independent School District (Isd). This school stands out for its consistent academic excellence, ranking in the 93rd percentile of all Texas elementary schools, and for its exceptional ability to support a diverse range of learners, including students from low socio-economic backgrounds, English language learners, and those in special education.

What truly sets Sem Elementary apart from its neighbors is its remarkable success with students who face economic challenges. While nearby schools like Sonntag Elementary, Rogers Elementary, and Tadlock Elementary have higher rates of students from low-income families and lower overall test scores, Sem achieves strong results for this subgroup, ranking in the 66th percentile. This is a significant strength not shared by many of its peers. In core academics, Sem's 3rd-grade reading proficiency (83%) far exceeds that of Sonntag (56%), Rogers (54%), and Tadlock (58%), and even outperforms high-flying neighbors like Norris Elementary (75%) and Liscano Elementary (79%). The school also excels in supporting special education and English language learners, ranking in the 95th percentile for both groups.

However, parents should be aware of a notable trend: while reading scores are strong across all grades, math performance declines as students get older. By 5th grade, only 62% of Sem students are proficient in math, which is below the district average and significantly lower than top-performing neighbors like Norris (82%) and Jim Spradley Elementary (90%). This suggests a potential gap in the 5th-grade math curriculum that the school may need to address. Overall, Sem Elementary is a strong, well-rounded school that efficiently uses its resources to support all students, making it an excellent choice for families seeking a supportive and high-achieving environment.

Open Quote I think the school is pretty good but the priorities are a little screwed up. We hear all about any fundraiser but not about important things like when they lost a couple of kindergarteners or when my child got an award, or how they changed the policy to have all students go to the bathroom together and if they have to go in between, the whole class has to go (which is really difficult for a new shy kindergartener) or when there was a strange man drunk and smoking standing across the street watching all of the kids. As a parent, I would like to know more about the important things not just the things that make the school money. Close Quote
