Summary

Greenbriar Elementary is a PK-5 school in the Fort Worth Independent School District (Isd) serving 468 students in a high-poverty area, where about 89% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. After years of ranking in the bottom 20% of Texas elementary schools, Greenbriar has made a dramatic turnaround, jumping from the 19th percentile in 2024-2025 to the 38th percentile in 2025-2026—its highest ranking in years and the most significant single-year improvement among nearby schools.

The school's standout success is in mathematics, where it now outperforms both the district and state averages in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. For example, 3rd-grade math proficiency nearly doubled from 25% to 41.18%, surpassing the district average of 38.22%. Greenbriar even outperforms the nearby Texas School Of The Arts (the area's highest-ranked school at the 58th percentile) in 3rd and 4th-grade math. The school also excels with specific student groups, ranking in the 60th percentile statewide for special education students and the 58th percentile for low socio-economic status students—a strong indicator it is closing achievement gaps. Additionally, 3rd-grade Spanish Reading scores (46.67% proficient) far exceed district (26.69%) and state (28.3%) averages, suggesting a strong bilingual program.

However, challenges remain. Reading scores still lag behind state averages, and science is a critical weakness—only 6.15% of 5th graders were proficient in science in 2024-2025. While Alice D Contreras (69th percentile) is a higher-performing school nearby, it did not show the same dramatic improvement. Greenbriar is the only school in its immediate vicinity with a strong upward trajectory, positioning it as a potential model for improvement within the district. If it can replicate its math success in reading and science, Greenbriar is on a clear path to becoming a solid, mid-performing school.

Open Quote How can this school even get one star? It is below poor! I pulled my daughter out not even one month into the school year. She is Chinese and Caucasin. The teacher made a mistake, and called her hispanic one day. My child told her that she was Asian. From then on, the kids were so terrible to her. It literally took me 2 hours to calm her down from crying when she got home. The principal would sit in her office and would not let anyone disturb her. She even had it noted on her door. However the assistant principal tried. He should be the Principal, he is qualified for the job. Not her. One day I came to pick my daughter up, and she is nowhere to be found. They let her run off by herself! I told the Principal that. I only one time got to talk to, that it was not to happen. She said they are not responsible for them after school. My child was standing on the curb crying, thinking I had forgotten about her. Also I have seen that principal out there putting her hands in kids faces and yelling at them. That is very unacceptable. I know nothing will be done about this. That is how F.W.I.S.D. works. Seems to have been that way since I was a kid. When it comes to my child. I bring her up to be as respectful as possible. But to not let these other kids run her down. She dont deserve it. She was treated so unfairly. If I knew of anyway possible to sue the S.D. I would so I could pay for her to go to a good school.I hope that another child never has to endure what my child did. Close Quote
