Summary

Manuel Jara Elementary is a PK-5 public school in the Fort Worth Independent School District (Isd) serving 567 students in a high-poverty area, where over 92% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school stands out for its remarkable turnaround and exceptional support for students with special needs. In the 2025-2026 school year, Manuel Jara jumped from the 27th to the 48th percentile statewide, its highest ranking in seven years. Most notably, the school ranks in the 83rd percentile for its effectiveness with Special Education students—a 4-star rating that far exceeds any nearby school. This is a powerful testament to targeted interventions that help vulnerable learners thrive. The school also excels in 5th-grade English Reading, with 61% of students proficient, outperforming both the district (50%) and state (58%) averages. Additionally, its bilingual program is a clear strength: 70% of 5th graders were proficient in Spanish Reading, compared to just 32% districtwide. In contrast, its nearest neighbor, Rufino Mendoza Senior Elementary, remains in the 16th percentile with no signs of improvement, suggesting that school-level leadership at Jara is driving positive change.

Despite having the lowest per-student spending among its peer group ($10,047), Manuel Jara achieves better outcomes than higher-funded schools like Kirkpatrick Elementary. However, 5th-grade Science remains a critical weakness, with only 11% proficient in English and 0% in Spanish—a challenge shared by many nearby schools. Overall, Manuel Jara is a school in transition, showing broad-based improvement across Hispanic, Low SES, and Male student subgroups. Its success with Special Education students and strong bilingual program make it a standout choice for families seeking a school that effectively supports diverse learners.

Open Quote When I went to this school back in 1996-1998 the teachers they had were very into their jobs, they really did care about each and every one of us. If I still lived in Fort Worth my daughter would be enrolled their but I live in Denton now. My two favorite teachers were Mr.Caram my 4th grade teacher and Ms.Huff my 5th grade teacher. Also my p.e. coach Mr. Sandoval he had lots of fun activities. Close Quote
