Summary

Mesita Elementary in El Paso, TX, is a large, high-performing school serving 916 students from Pre-K through 5th grade in the El Paso Independent School District (Isd), consistently earning a 4-star rating and ranking in the 79th percentile statewide. This school stands out as a top academic anchor in central El Paso, dramatically outperforming nearby schools like Douglass Elementary (20th percentile) and Aoy Elementary (33rd percentile). With a favorable student-teacher ratio of 14.3:1 and a significant drop in economic disadvantage from 69% to 58% over two years, Mesita demonstrates strong efficiency, spending less per student ($10,861) than its lower-performing neighbors while achieving superior results.

Mesita excels in English STAAR proficiency, with 3rd-grade Reading scores (64.71%) 13 points higher than district and state averages, and 5th-grade Science proficiency (40.95%) over 15 points higher than the district. However, a key insight reveals a dichotomy: while the school shines in English assessments, its Spanish STAAR scores lag behind the district average, suggesting the bilingual program may need attention. Additionally, Mesita has a notable weakness in serving its Gifted and Talented students, ranking in the bottom 5th percentile for this subgroup, indicating a need for more enrichment opportunities for high-achieving learners.

Compared to the closest high-performing school, Coach Wally Hartley Pk-8 (61st percentile), Mesita still outperforms it in key areas like 3rd-grade Reading (64.71% vs. 45.45%) and Math (54.9% vs. 40.26%). This reinforces Mesita’s position as the premier elementary option in the area, offering strong academic foundations for most students, though parents of gifted or bilingual-track children may want to explore additional support or programs to ensure their child’s needs are fully met.

Open Quote The school has a policy that parents are not allow to be with your children during lunch or bring them lunch. To me this is a red flag which means the school has something to hide. Since then I have found a more ( a lot more) parent friendly school. My little one is only happier and is adjusting to new way of life. He is only in kinder. I would not recommend this school unless you don't care what happens to your children. Close Quote
