Summary

Adelle Turner Elementary is a PK-5 school in the Dallas Independent School District (Isd) serving 258 students in a high-poverty area, where 96.9% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school is on a dramatic upward trajectory, climbing from the 3rd percentile statewide in 2023-2024 to the 20th percentile in 2025-2026, suggesting recent interventions are starting to take effect. With a favorable student-to-teacher ratio of 12.4:1 and a per-student spending of $13,847, the school is allocating resources to support smaller class sizes and more individualized attention compared to nearby schools like Thomas L Marsalis Elementary Steam Academy (14:1 ratio) and Barbara Jordan Elementary (14:1 ratio).

Adelle Turner's most standout achievement is its exceptional performance with English Language Learners (ELL), ranking in the 96th percentile statewide in 2024-2025 and earning a 5-star rating—a remarkable feat not matched by nearby schools like Thomas L Marsalis Elementary Steam Academy. The school also shows strong results for its African American students, ranking in the 46th percentile statewide in 2025-2026, significantly higher than its overall rank. However, the school struggles with inconsistent grade-level performance, such as 5th-grade Reading at 52.38% proficiency versus 4th-grade Reading at 23.53%, and a persistent weakness in 5th-grade Science, where 0% of students were proficient in 2024-2025. This pattern suggests a need for a more consistent, vertically-aligned curriculum.

While Adelle Turner excels with ELL students, it struggles with its Gifted and Talented students, ranking in the 7th percentile in 2024-2025, indicating resources may be focused on foundational skills at the expense of enrichment. The school's proximity to Mark Twain School For The Talented And Gifted (just 0.53 miles away) highlights a stark contrast in educational opportunity, as that magnet school consistently ranks in the top 25% of Texas schools with a lower free/reduced lunch rate of 72.54%. Adelle Turner's recent improvement is promising, but it still has a long way to go to match the performance of its high-achieving neighbor.

Open Quote Adele Turner is a pathetic attempt for a school. My child learned nothing in 2018. The school is poorly managed by a principal that only cares about STAAR tested grade levels. The teachers are nonchalant. No field trips. The building is outdated and in poor condition. Close Quote
