Summary

Edward Titche Elementary is a PK-5 public school in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas, TX, serving 676 students as part of the Dallas Independent School District (Isd). The school faces significant challenges due to extreme economic disadvantage, with 99.41% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, a rate higher than nearby schools like San Jacinto Elementary (96.11%) and Seabourn Elementary (91.1%). While its overall state ranking is low at the 14th percentile, the school has notable strengths that set it apart from its neighbors.

The most striking differentiator is the school's bilingual program. Students taking the STAAR Spanish test consistently outperform their peers taking the English test, and often beat the state average for Spanish test-takers. For example, in 2024-2025, 5th graders scored 60.47% proficient in Spanish Reading versus the state's 32.91%. This suggests the school's bilingual/ESL programs are highly effective, even as general English-language instruction struggles. Additionally, 5th-grade math is a consistent bright spot, with 53.09% proficiency in 2024-2025, outperforming both the district (45.81%) and state (46.24%).

An interesting comparison emerges with C A Tatum Junior Elementary, located just 0.59 miles away and serving a nearly identical high-poverty population. While Titche has seen a sharp decline from the 44th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 14th percentile in 2025-2026, Tatum has been on a steady upward climb, rising from the 18th to the 39th percentile over the same period. This divergence suggests factors beyond poverty—such as school leadership or instructional programs—are driving outcomes. Despite spending $12,606 per student, higher than many nearby schools, Titche's academic returns remain low, pointing to potential issues with resource allocation or instructional effectiveness.

Open Quote My son's teacher, in agreement with the asst principal sent my special needs son home because of behavior issues. They didn't suspend him, they just wanted me to come pick him up as if this was a daycare. It didn't matter that my son was already in special education for speech & was being evaluated for ADHD. The school just didn't want to deal with him or use techniques for SpEd students that they should have learned and understood before becoming educators. Close Quote
