Summary

Bang Elementary is a PK-5 school in Houston, TX, serving 949 students within the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (Isd), where over 77% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school has shown a strong upward trend, climbing from a low point in the 2022-2023 school year to a 3-star rating and 56th percentile statewide rank for 2025-2026, indicating a positive turnaround trajectory that outpaces many nearby peers like Emmott Elementary and Francone Elementary, which have seen stagnation or decline.

A standout feature is Bang's exceptional support for its Gifted and Talented students, who rank in the 75th percentile (4 stars) statewide—a metric not available for most comparison schools. The school also excels in 4th-grade mathematics, where proficiency (56.29%) matches the district average and significantly exceeds the state average (49.28%), a notable achievement given the high poverty rate. However, reading consistently outperforms math across all grades, with 3rd-grade reading (50.39%) close to the state average while 3rd-grade math (34.65%) lags nearly 10 points behind, highlighting math as a key area for improvement.

The most compelling comparison is with Hairgrove Elementary, just 2.48 miles away, which serves an even higher poverty rate (89.43%) yet ranks in the 85th percentile (4 stars) with proficiency rates 15-30 points higher in nearly every subject. This proves high poverty is not a barrier to success and offers a local model for Bang to study. Additionally, Bang's per-student spending ($10,318) and favorable student-teacher ratio (13.9) are on par with peers, suggesting the challenge lies in instructional effectiveness rather than resources. The nearest neighbor, Gleason Elementary (0.94 miles), has a lower poverty rate (64.15%) and higher rank (75th percentile), indicating Bang's attendance zone may draw from a more economically disadvantaged pocket within the same neighborhood.

Open Quote My family and I moved to Houston from Tampa, Fl. Being a teacher in Tampa I already had my kindergartener's school picked out the year before. Having no idea what to expect especially my son's first year of school. We only looked for places to live around the rankings of school digger. We were truly blessed to move into the Cy-Fair ISD. Bang is an awesome school. From the principal all the way to staff and faculty. My son has been truly happy at Bang!!! We love Bang! Close Quote
