Summary

Eastridge Elementary is a public elementary school in Amarillo, Texas, serving around 550 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Amarillo Independent School District (ISD). While the school has seen fluctuating performance over the years, it currently faces several challenges, including lower-than-average student achievement on state assessments and a high concentration of students from low-income families.

Eastridge Elementary's student performance on STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) tests is generally below the district and state averages across various grade levels and subjects, particularly in 3rd and 4th grade. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, with relatively strong results for Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) students, but struggles with African American, White, and Gifted and Talented student performance. Additionally, the school has a very high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 93.05% to 94.73% over the past few years.

Interestingly, Eastridge Elementary's performance is generally lower than the nearby Humphrey's Highland Elementary, Rogers Elementary, and Emerson Elementary within the Amarillo ISD, which tend to have higher student performance on STAAR tests and higher rankings from SchoolDigger. However, Eastridge does outperform some of the more distant schools, such as Hamlet Elementary and Forest Hill Elementary, in certain areas. By addressing the specific needs of its student population and learning from the successes of nearby higher-performing schools, Eastridge Elementary has the potential to improve its academic outcomes and provide a more equitable education for all its students.

Open Quote Our daughter never brought home books to read for her grade level, and our son needed speech therapy and all they could say is wait until his 2 front teeth grow in. Why not just do what the kids need and what would be best for them. I was very disappointed last year. Close Quote
