Summary

Bill Hasse Elementary in Alvin, TX, is a PK-5 school serving 574 students within the Alvin Independent School District (Isd), where 71.6% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, reflecting the community's economic challenges.

The most defining feature of Bill Hasse is its dramatic academic turnaround. After years of low performance, the school has surged from the 29th percentile statewide in 2023-2024 to the 61st percentile in 2025-2026, earning a 3-star rating. This rapid improvement is particularly impressive for its most vulnerable students: Low Socio-Economic Status students jumped from the 30th to the 61st percentile, Special Education students soared from the 8th to the 64th percentile, and English Language Learners rose from the 6th to the 50th percentile in just two years. While nearby schools like Mark Twain Elementary (80th percentile) and Bob And Betty Nelson Elementary (77th percentile) have also improved, Bill Hasse's rate of change is far steeper, especially given its higher poverty rate. The school now competes well within its district, matching schools like Hood-Case Elementary (66th percentile) and Alvin Elementary (64th percentile), despite serving a more economically disadvantaged population.

A standout strength is mathematics. Bill Hasse administers the 6th-grade STAAR Math test to advanced 5th graders, and these students consistently score over 30 percentage points above the state average—a sign of a strong acceleration program. While 4th and 5th-grade math dipped in 2024-2025, all grades rebounded significantly in 2025-2026, suggesting the school quickly addressed the issue. With a low student-to-teacher ratio of 12.6 and per-student spending ($10,033) in the middle of its district, Bill Hasse is using its resources efficiently to drive outcomes. For parents, this is a school on a powerful upward trajectory, proving that significant academic growth is possible even in the face of economic challenges.

Open Quote They had my son call on the phone for forgetting one question on his homework. Now mind you most parents don't expect to get a phone call unless something is wrong with your child. Not only did i receive the call but their phones are all full of static so all i could tell is it was my son and he was in tears. I hurried to the school thinking something was wrong and i get told he forgot to do one thing on his homework and this was their policy to humiliate our children for something stupid and now you have them upset the rest of the day. Well that's a good teaching policy isn't it. So much for teaching our kids patience. This is only the third week of school and the signs are already showing it's not going to be a good year. By the way I let the school know their phones were messed up and that other parents were going to be upset with these calls and they didn't seem to care the line which was clear out the office of children most with looks of terror on their faces continued to move on as they continued to have the children call even after I told them about their phones. They don't care about the children and they don't care about the parents of the children. Not to mention their is no parking for school functions so you either have to jump the curb with your car and park across the rode or if you can get in you might find a parking spot on the grass and then you have to worry about getting blocked in. Thinking of having my child moved to a different school. Close Quote
