Open Quote I am a grandmother also. I read the review from the grandmother who was not satisfied with the handling of her granddaughter; however I disagree with her findings. I do not understand what the child did but I do understand that if you catch behavior problems early, they can be solved. Children at age 6 will be playful but should not have gum to stick under a desk and should not write on a desk or a wall or anything but paper, so these things have to be shown to a child who apparently does not know or understand that these behaviors are unacceptable.

I have educated two of my three grandchildren at this school. One is going into 5th grade, the other the 2nd grade. The kindergarten teacher, Ms. Suchadowski gave both children an excellent start. The 1st grade teacher for my oldest grandchild, I was not pleased with but I worked with her to get the behavior situation corrected. However in all of the grades up to 5, my oldest has achieved academic success - grades as well as the yearly tests are excellent. The younger grandchild has achieved academic success as well as being an obedient child.

I am a retired Judicial Administrative Assistant and behavior no matter how petty can escalate into a child being problematic when they become older; as well as the disruption of a class of students who may not be disobedient. However normal you may feel behavior problems by age are - they will not stop, even at a different charter school, a regular public school or a private school - and some private schools still have very harsh punishments. So be patient with the school and administrators. Personally, I think they are doing an excellent job. Close Quote

Open Quote I have several concerns regarding Hardy Williams Acadamey aka Renaissance Advantage.

The first few are as follows:

Ms. Perry, Major attitude adjustment (asap)
Mr. Williams, Exaggerates the matter to the full-capacity.
Ms. Bellamy, Lacks principal skills.

Being the grandmother to a 1st grader, I'm somewhat confused as to the nature of being a six year old. At six writing on the desk happens. In addition, to sticking gum under the desk, as well as, cutting up papers. It is not acceptable. And certainly NOT grounds for "destroying school property" and being suspended. I am furious at the way in which my granddaughter is labeled. Also, the way in which staff handled the situation. Not only is it unprofessional, it's unacceptable.

The school lacks structure. The way in which they enforce policy and procedures(s)is totally unfounded.

I asked Ms. Bellamy, why is there NO school counselor on staff to inter-act with a child to avoid misbehaving? What happened to in-house suspension? What happened to stay after-school just a few minutes, not an all nighter, in order that a 1st grader could appreciate their own punishment? What happened to NO recess? What happened to making them clean-up their own mess? Because you have NO staff to supervise child misbehaving, you suspend? Wrong. Suspension punishes me.

I can stand with you to say 1st graders must learn to respect and accept fault and failure.

The above-aforementioned staff has just taken authority to a whole other level.

The many changes, in conjunction, with the inconsistencies at the school are just not satisfying enough for this grandmother.

As you know, the state grants the school(s) so many days a year to achieve a high level of enrichment for the weak areas. And while they use these days very well. I can't say that I see improvement.

Having shared my thoughts, feelings and concerns, I rate this school as poor.

When my granddaughter is old enough, I will be transferring her to someplace that has consideration and what is optimistic with young scholars.

On this day, I called School District central office, Mr. Ben Rarer, 400-6484, oversees chartered school. I was tranferred to Mr. Travis Larrier, under Mr. Rarer, 400-6966. Left message for his return dialogue.

Sincerely,

Pamela A. James Close Quote
