Open Quote I don't know the situation of the person's rating above, especially since his experience was from 2 years ago, but my experience with Jarman this year (11-12) has been nothing short of exceptional. The 8th grade teachers are caring, involved, supportive people that go the extra mile to help their students. I have been kept in the loop of all aspects of the educational experience - grades, behaviors, social, all of it. I have not only experienced it with the 8th grade teachers, I have experienced it with 6th grade teachers, counselors and administrators, basically everyone that has contact with students. I have been there on several Saturdays where teachers show up to help with school beautification. We just experienced teachers, janitors, administrators, counselors, etc. spend a Saturday at the school for a carnival for the community. These teachers care. These teachers are dedicated. These teachers have committed their lives to their students and for that I am grateful. There is no better place to send your chid than to Jarman Middle School. Close Quote

Open Quote Honestly, I've never been more disappointed in a school than I currently am with Jarman Middle School. I am in the U.S. Air Force and due to my many assignments, my son is now in his fourth different school district. He's a good kid, a straight "A" student, and he stays out of trouble, so this isn't one of those reviews that "blames my kids problems on someone else". I'm very hard on him and accept nothing but the best on a daily basis.

All of that being said, I can tell you that he's not been happy since the day he started this school. He has plenty of friends, so it isn't a social problem. He's very frustrated because his 8th grade teachers do not act as if they care at all about the students. They teach the required curriculum, collect their paychecks, and go home. If any additional information or instruction is requested, it is given with a berating attitude and minimal details. Again, it's more like "I've done my job, now go figure the rest of it out yourself."

Thankfully, my wife and I stay involved and are educated enough to assist him with most of his problems, but there's also a ethical requirement for teachers to ensure students have a grasp of the daily lesson along with providing additional instruction to those that are striving for a greater understanding of the material.

If this isn't enough, you should have seen how we were treated during our Parent/Teacher conference. They seemed appalled at the fact we asked questions about their method of instruction and teacher/student interaction. We weren't questioning their ability, we just wanted information to pass along to our son so he could get most out of his classes and provide the proper feedback to his teachers. It was at that exact moment that I was able to understand how my son felt. I'm 39 years old and I've served in the military for more than 20 years but his teachers still wanted to make sure that I felt beneath them. It didn't work, it just showed a lack of self-confidence and personal happiness on their part.
