The school is part of the Columbus Preparatory and Fitness Academy District, which is ranked 634 out of 828 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite being located in close proximity to several higher-performing elementary schools, such as Binns Elementary School and Westgate Alternative Elementary School, Columbus Preparatory and Fitness Academy consistently underperforms its neighbors. The school has consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 24.3% in 2020-2021 to 44.1% in 2021-2022, which is significantly higher than the state average. Additionally, the school's performance on state assessments is generally below the state and district averages across grade levels and subject areas, with proficiency rates ranging from 8.1% in 6th grade English Language Arts to 52.8% in 4th grade Mathematics, compared to state averages of 54.5% and 69.1%, respectively.

The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups. While African American students and students with disabilities perform relatively well compared to their peers statewide, Hispanic students, English Language Learners, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds struggle, with proficiency rates often below 20%. The school's lower per-student spending of $6,736 in 2018-2019, compared to nearby Burroughs Elementary School ($10,628) and Eakin Elementary School ($11,724), may be a contributing factor to its overall academic underperformance, though further analysis would be needed to establish a clear causal relationship.

Open Quote My oldest child started here in Kindergarten and had no issues initially. In the older kid classes there are some disciplinary issues and the teachers can't handle it. One of my son's teachers told the class that she'd rather work at the prison again than teach them. She also told them they were all destined for prison. I looked into her background and found out she doesn't even have a teaching license, nor do charter schools require them. I chose this school as an alternative to West Broad Elementary like many other parents but it's gone so downhill its insane. My daughter in kindergarten told me her teacher smoked inside the building. Another child in her class also showed kids his penis and the child was removed from class but parents were not notified that this occurred. My son injured his foot in basketball at 9AM and no one called me to get him until 2PM. A teacher also accused my son of stealing pencils, and told another child my child would steal his pencil if he left it out. She later admitted to me that she was mistaken. I have always dropped off extra supplies and pencils. My child has never been in trouble once in school but was repeatedly talked to like this by teachers. If you are a parent looking for a better alternative than CPS for your child, look into the EdChoice scholarship program and send your kid to private school through them. They do have certain teachers who are amazing but unfortunately there are also many awful ones. Close Quote
