Open Quote Despite talented teachers, the school curriculum keeps kids years behind where they should be in terms of achievement. The standards and expectations for the kids could not be lower. If you would like your child to acquire skills that are similar to those being learned by children in other communities the school administration will ask "why the hurry"? Kids start off in kindergarten as prepared as kids are in most average communities and then they loss ground each year. My kids were falling further and further behind in terms of skills compared to their cousins, same age, enrolled in school systems in communities that value education. By high school, kids of professional educated parents can't pass regent or score high enough on AP tests to earn credit. Kids with As in class are getting 65s on Regents and 2s or 1s on AP tests. A number of friends of my kids have been sent to boarding school because none of the area school districts are very good and some are really terrible. There are no private schools except religious ones. This is a community that wants to educate the kids to be good E-J shoe factory workers even though the factories are long gone. If you are educated, this is not the place you want to raise your kids. Close Quote
