Open Quote School is good. Has good programs. TeAchers are average. School encourages good grades & conduct.

I agree with the two below review that for years some kids were recommended to honors & didn’t belong there {didn’t have the right grades nor right attitude} these kids brought down top classes in all their schools. Those in the know know {lol} have seen & heArd about it.
Maybe lately kids are placed better. Some teachers retired or left who would boost some kids grades bc some parents pushed it & some were on PTA .
School & admin do try but I agree with the reviews that said it didn’t serve the students well nor those around them. Some kids would get test corrections etc in this school & on & made it look like they were an A student , meanwhile some struggled in some subjects couldn’t pass honors type tests, fail some regents, not pass common core or harder subject tests state tests & performed bad SAT. These kids had arrangements with other kids who to sit next to cheat& some parents including some PTA had arrangements with teachers. That hopefully stopped bc it does no one any good. Can’t make a general Ed kid a top student in real life some can’t do the work or have focus issues so their busy talking or being loud clowns. So do everyone good & place kids approximately so they are in a class with others like them that understand their limitations . Same pattern repeAted to next schools makes entitled kids but the kid has to realize they wouldn’t be able to do well on tests eventually will apply for a job or entrance to a school that they need to earn on their own.

Its obvious the kids who are not truly honor kids who are distractions , in ppls business trying to better& cool, it’s all social to them& then they find a few more similar to them & there sinks the environment of the class & school. So think twice before you shuffle in gen ed kids to honors some o these immature kids do eventually need to to perform well on their own to move ahead well and stop blaming others for their fails.

54 is recommended smarter kids go there in the last few years& do well. Some kids come from parents who hold their kid accountable not game the system with them bc education begins @ home, making classes & schools better. Close Quote

Open Quote Has great programs & incentives tries new things to increase good behavior & academics.
School is always improving just have less teachers cater to some kids cause of parents pressure including some PTA whose teachers made some students look better on paper when in reality some kids with focus & academic issues aggressive&distracted kids putting in classes & referring them to honors next school only passed There challenges to the next school& class. Some kids couldn't do well in math or core subjects, only to fail core classes in future, cheat to get by fail & struggle with state tests, regents,SAT etc but they were put & misplaced into honors classes only passed the problem to next class next teacher next schools. Some Kids were put in honors due to parents pressure & were set up to fail, distract & annoy ppl then were angry blamers when called out for behavior.

However moreso these days Admin at PS 54 looks to execute learning in a good environment. Admin has a good handle on issues, programs keeping kids safe.

Over the years Some PTA helpful but several PTA kids received to many perks.
Some pushy PTA complaining parents had their agenda to push their kids struggle in math etc got into honors bc teachers as noted let them do test corrections to boost grade, extra credit etc, kid only to struggle thereafter by
failing tests needing to cheat to pass, fail regents & ap classes, SAT.
Its all our business bc it effects all of us in class school & in community, these kids who can’t academically keep up, some with attitudes , inattentive, gossip drama lovers, low self esteem covered up in arrogance back talking disrespectful kids too outspoken, acting out distracting classes only to fail later on then blame others when their kids behavior is called out & don’t like it, too bad that makes entitled disrespectful kids with a false sense of esteem.

Need better chancellor regs for those kids who r distractions chatty in class, can’t to math or write essays well but their in honors bc they pushed in by parents, when their poor actions were caught defensive & aggressive & their parents cover for them knowing the system .
There’s only so much an administration can do l.
So teachers, parents, school admin don’t push these kids into honors cause go to next school struggling, distracting, annoying others& inattentive while spending time trying to be cool. Need stricter criteria &character requirements for honors not accept menacing stir the pot kids to honors class, not looking to resolve righteous types don’t deserve top classes without good character they wouldn’t match a more selective criteria. Schools nor teachers should not accommodate they need a better criteria need to meet good character criteria to be with w top kids.
Thankfully these kids do eventually move on , separate & scatter then their siblings graduate go seperate wAys classes &programs & communities are improved greatly & complaining agendas to overturn school policies go away.. Close Quote
