Summary

Earth School is an elementary school located in New York City's New York City Geographic District # 1, serving grades PK-5 with 194 students. The school has had a mixed performance history, with its statewide ranking fluctuating over the years.

Earth School's student performance on state assessments is generally below the district and state averages, particularly in math. However, the school's 5th-grade ELA proficiency rate has been higher than the district and state averages in some years. The school's performance has been inconsistent, with some grades and subjects performing better than others. Earth School has a high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, which likely contributes to the academic challenges the school faces. Despite the relatively high per-student spending and low student-teacher ratio, Earth School's academic performance is still below the district and state averages.

When compared to other nearby schools in the same district, such as Ps 15 Roberto Clemente and East Village Community School, Earth School's performance is generally lower. This suggests that simply allocating more resources may not be enough to drive significant improvements, and the school may need to focus on more targeted and effective instructional strategies and interventions to address the unique challenges it faces.

Open Quote Not understanding the low rating for this truly excellent progressive school. Perhaps because some of the school population opts out of standardized testing?
Incredibly dedicated teachers here. Our child tested into g&t programs, but we chose this school instead because of its community and values and educators. Close Quote
