Open Quote My name is Shawnna Magwood and my two children attended NACA (Northwood Appold Community Academy and in the year of 2007-2008 my son was administered the MSA and his test scores were proficient and advanced in areas that were not there from previous testing batteries used. I had many IEP meetings that showed evidence in his testing and evaluations that there was a learning disability present . I had outside tests done and etc that showed the same and more extensive diagnosis became known. My son came to me one day in the kitchen while cooking dinner and he said and I quote" Mommy I have something to tell you, my aide and the principal took me in a room in the lower level of the school and gave me all of the answers to the test, they told me not to tell anyone especially you." I cried because my child was manipulated and violated and they sat back and knew what they had done to him. Out of the honesty I teach him he knew he needed to tell me anyway. I reported this incident and the testing analysis department in Baltimore City Public Schools said we need to wait until the 2008-2009 test to compare. I patiently waited and when I received the test scores and the one to one aide was no longer there his scores were where I knew his ability was and compared to his Stanford 10 testing from the 1st grade . The aide nor the principal were not fired or made accountable for it . The director of the school was not dealt with either and reading the scores on this page makes me feel that due to my child's falsified test scores and God only knows who else could have been violated how can these percentages even be seen as being accurate. This school needs to be shut down and the children they are doing this too don't deserve it . Making accommodations on a test is one thing , but it needs to be documented on a 504 plan or IEP , but outright cheating. This is unacceptable. Close Quote

Open Quote From my experience with NACA (Northwood Appold Community Academy), it is not a student centered educational institution, and I would not recommend this School for a pet, let alone a Child. Ive had very unprofessional encounters with the School's administration which includes Dr. Cecil Gray, and the 4th grade team. I encourage all current, and prospective parent's to find alternative choices for educating their children. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
