Summary

Luling Elementary School in Luling, LA, serves 653 students from Pre-K through 5th grade and is part of the highly-rated St. Charles Parish school district, which holds a 5-star rating statewide.

While the district is a top performer, Luling Elementary itself has a more modest academic profile, currently ranking in the 46th percentile (2 stars) for the 2025-2026 school year. This places it as the lowest-ranked elementary school among its immediate district peers. For example, Norco Elementary School ranks in the 91st percentile (5 stars), and R.J. Vial Elementary School ranks in the 83rd percentile (4 stars). Test scores reflect this gap: Luling’s proficiency rates in Math (71%) and English Language Arts (71%) trail the district averages (82% and 78%, respectively), and the gap is widest in Social Studies, where Luling’s 47% proficiency is 18 points below the district average. The school serves a higher percentage of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds (65.85% qualify for free or reduced lunch) compared to higher-performing peers like Norco (38.52%) and Lakewood Elementary School (35.53%).

Despite these challenges, Luling Elementary has several bright spots. It has achieved exceptional results with its Hispanic students, ranking in the 90th percentile (5 stars) for this subgroup statewide in 2024-2025. The school has also made a remarkable turnaround in chronic absenteeism, dropping from a high of 23.6% in 2020-2021 to just 6.1% in 2024-2025—far better than the state average of 22.5% and even the district average of 7.7%. Additionally, support for Special Education students is improving, with their ranking rising from the 26th percentile (1 star) in 2023-2024 to the 52nd percentile (3 stars) in 2025-2026. However, a notable decline in performance among White students (dropping from the 63rd to the 36th percentile in one year) warrants attention. Compared to neighboring Jefferson Parish schools like John James Audubon School and Lucille Cherbonnier School, which face higher rates of economic disadvantage and chronic absenteeism, Luling Elementary benefits from a strong district ecosystem that provides a solid foundation for student success.

Open Quote I transferred my kindergartner from another St. Charles Parish school to Luling Elementary half way through the year. The previous school pushed for my child to be medicated (to basically sedate him). After attending Luling he matured, developed and progressed. I am proud to say my son attends Luling Elementary!!! Open Quote This school has a terrible ranking, even after implementing social promotion to cover up masses of students who are failing.

Passing students who have straight F's for all four quarters is a travesty that lowers the standards for the entire school and robs children of a quality education. Close Quote
