Summary

Ruby-Wise Elementary School in Pineville, LA, is a high-performing PK-6 school within the Rapides Parish district, serving 410 students and consistently earning a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. This school stands out as an exceptional choice for families, particularly because it achieves outstanding academic results while serving a student population where about 65% qualify for free or reduced lunch. Ruby-Wise ranks in the 89th percentile statewide (75th out of 690 elementary schools) for the 2025-2026 school year, with remarkable proficiency rates of 83% in Math, 88% in ELA, and 75% in Social Studies—far exceeding nearby schools like Martin Park Elementary School (29% Math, 47% ELA) and Horseshoe Drive Elementary School (31% Math, 60% ELA).

What truly sets Ruby-Wise apart is its exceptional support for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The school ranks in the 96th percentile statewide for effectiveness with low-SES students, demonstrating a powerful ability to close the achievement gap. This is a stark contrast to other high-poverty schools in the area, such as L.S. Rugg Elementary School (98% free/reduced lunch), which ranks in the bottom 10-30% of the state. Ruby-Wise also excels at keeping students in class, with chronic absenteeism dropping from 21.8% in 2021-2022 to just 10.4% in 2024-2025—significantly better than the district average of 17.5% and the state average of 22.5%. While Poland Junior High School achieves similar high scores with an even lower absenteeism rate (2.1%), Ruby-Wise’s success appears more driven by quality instruction and support systems once students are in the building.

Ruby-Wise shows particular strength in upper elementary grades, with 6th-grade Math proficiency at 93% and 4th-grade ELA at 90%, indicating the school effectively builds foundational skills for middle school readiness. The school has shown a clear upward trajectory over the past five years, improving from the 78th percentile to its current 89th percentile, though it experienced a slight dip from a peak of 93rd percentile in 2024-2025. For parents seeking a school that delivers excellent academics while ensuring all students, regardless of economic background, have the support they need to thrive, Ruby-Wise Elementary is a standout choice in the Pineville area.

Open Quote Ruby Wise School was the best. We had some of the best teachers there. We also had a good principal. Mrs. Ruth O'Neal was my favorite. I bought one of the first school book annuals that was published. Those were the good old days. I wished some of the school mates would email me and find out what is going on in each other lives. My email address is [email protected].
