Open Quote I have two daughters at GM. We have been extremely pleased with the teacher quality, the administration, and the parent involvement.
My one critique is the student/teacher ratio has increased the last couple of years. I hope this trend reverses itself. Close Quote

Open Quote We moved here for the schools and are glad that we did. We had heard that Garrison Mill was a particularly good school within the east cobb system, and have been very impressed by the level of academic work that is expected of students, as well as the high level of parental involvement in classrooms and PTA. It was initially an adjustment to bring our kids up to the higher expectations and workload, but I am so grateful that we made this decision. Elementary school is a time to build the foundation for later years, and I am amazed by how much my kids are growing academically in this environment. The excellent programing in the arts and music are a nice plus as well. Close Quote

Open Quote Garrison Mill ES is terrible when it comes to working with parents who are in a divorce situation. Neither the teachers nor the administration are willing to communicate with both parents - they prefer to only talk to the parent who has physical custody even if the non-custodial parent has joint legal custody and even when it is specifically written in the divorce decree that both parents shall have access to all school records, conferences, contact with teachers, etc. This kind of treatment is not an isolated event because this has occurred over a few years and through different grade levels. They have a few excuses as to why they will only communicate with one parent, will not set up a seperate conference for both parents, etc., and all of their excuses are related to laziness. The teachers that we have had the "pleasure" of working with at Garrison Mill think it's a hastle to email you a copy of a progress report or report card and they get irritated very easily over little things. Garrison Mill teachers also think parents are incompetent idiots...they assume you don't know how to parent and will freely give you advice that is demeaning. This school may have great test scores but I would attribute that more to the parents than to the teachers. Be aware - great test scores don't mean that everything else in a school is great too. Open Quote Yes, the test scores are great at this school, so is the student/teacher ratio and parent involvement. However, faculty here are quite comfortable and there is very little turnover. This leads to less innovation and "freshness" among the staff. Great environment for children of stay at home parents. Otherwise, difficult system to find the services needed. Close Quote
