Summary

Griffin Middle School is a public middle school located in Smyrna, Georgia, serving 982 students in grades 6-8. It is part of the Cobb County School District, which is ranked 54th out of 206 districts in Georgia and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Griffin Middle School consistently outperforms the Cobb County and Georgia state averages in Milestones Assessment/Algebra I End of Course exams, with proficiency rates around 98% in recent years. However, the school faces challenges in Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, where its proficiency rates lag behind the district and state averages. The school's higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students, as indicated by the percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, may be a contributing factor to these academic disparities. Nearby Campbell Middle School stands out with stronger academic performance, particularly in Algebra I, English Language Arts, and Mathematics.

Griffin Middle School's per-student spending has increased from $7,509 in 2016-2017 to $8,229 in 2018-2019, suggesting a commitment to investing in the school's resources. The school maintains a lower student-teacher ratio compared to most of the nearby schools, which may indicate a focus on smaller class sizes and more personalized instruction. Continued investment in resources and targeted interventions could help Griffin Middle School address its areas of concern and further improve its overall academic performance.

Open Quote Please be aware that the data for school make up and test scores for this site are from 2-3 years ago. For a school that only teaches children for 3 years that shows that right now we have a totally different school from the one described on the site data. Our numbers of free and reduced lunches are dropping so fast that our title 1 status is in jeopardy. Our population make up is also changing. My son is in all advanced content classes and I have been pleased. We have a new principal and his influence on the teaching staff has been amazing. The major obstacle to our success is just over crowding. That will be addressed in the next SPLOST Bill with plans being made for a new school to relieve overcrowding in the 2019-2020 school year. Open Quote My son was transferred to griffin bc we had bought a home. I am very disappointed not only with the teacher but also the basic surroundings and influences with other students! I have had an on going issue with a specific teacher and I am literally about to contact me lawyer. Not only her as a role model she has failed but has no basic communication nor common sense skills. For whomever is considering putting their child in this school! I strongly recommend that you reconsider! Very disappointed and outraged at this moment! What has happened to our school system! If i could I would def give the school 5 thumb downs and here is my warning! Do your child a favor and DO NOT ENROLL them at GRIFFIN MIDDLE ACHOLL! Close Quote

Open Quote I am very pleased with my son's experience at Griffin middle. The principal, Paul Gillihan has worked very hard at improving the school, teaching staff and the students. The PTSA has grown over the past few years. They have supported the school and have worked hard in their fundraising efforts. Keep being GREAT GRIFFIN! Close Quote
