Summary

Atlantic High School in Port Orange, FL, is a mid-sized public high school serving 1,209 students in grades 9-12, part of the Volusia County School District, and has earned a consistent 3-star rating from Schooldigger, placing it in the 55th percentile of Florida high schools for the 2025-2026 school year.

One of the most striking features of Atlantic High School is its exceptional graduation rate, which reached an impressive 98.4% for the 2024-2025 school year, far exceeding both the district (95.6%) and state (92.2%) averages. This places it on par with top-performing nearby schools like Spruce Creek High School (99.5%) and Seabreeze High School (98.6%). However, the school faces a significant challenge with chronic absenteeism, which was 42.5% for the 2023-2024 school year—the highest rate among all standard comprehensive high schools in the area, compared to 32.4% at Spruce Creek and 29.6% at Deland High School. This paradox suggests that while the school excels at getting students to graduation through robust support systems, the high absenteeism likely contributes to weaker academic performance in key subjects.

Academically, Atlantic High School shows a clear split: it performs strongly in Biology 1 (84% proficient) and US History (80% proficient), well above district and state averages, but struggles significantly in math, with only 39% proficient in Algebra 1 and 45% in Geometry—the lowest among area comprehensive high schools. Located just 2.79 miles from the higher-performing Spruce Creek High School, Atlantic serves a more economically diverse student body (52% eligible for free or reduced lunch vs. 34% at Spruce Creek). The school has shown a positive trend, climbing from a 2-star rating in 2021-2022 to its current 3-star status, indicating effective leadership and targeted interventions that are improving outcomes, even as it works to bridge the gap between its strong graduation rates and weaker math proficiency.

Open Quote If your student is special needs beware they don't care . My child has adhd & has impulse issues & unable to take meds. Grant it my child is no angel by any means, but is not a problem child as well. The school does not see it this way though for a child with adhd they see them as a problem . The discipline lady acts like a child tattling on a class mate. The vice principal has no sense of humor what so ever and will judge your student before they even get to know them. The school is very judgmental, pushy & act like stuck up rich snobs. the front staff do not talk to the students nice i have observed with another student in the office. There was only one teacher there that i liked though Ms. Viola in special ed. The sheriff on campus there was awesome as well he really does care about the kids & all of the kids safety there so shout out to him as well for being awesome, We felt they really just want to push kids thru and collect the money on these special needs kids.
