Summary

Fruitville Elementary School is a mid-sized school in Sarasota, FL, serving 704 students in grades PK through 5 as part of the highly-rated Sarasota School District. This school stands out as a stable, reliable option in a neighborhood where nearby schools range from top-performing 5-star institutions to lower-rated ones, offering parents a consistent middle-to-upper-middle class educational environment without the intense competition of the highest-ranked peers.

One of Fruitville's most impressive strengths is its exceptional 5th Grade Math performance, with 84% of students proficient in the 2025-2026 school year—22 percentage points above the state average. This "5th Grade Peak" trend, where proficiency rates in both English Language Arts and Math increase from 3rd to 5th grade, contrasts with nearby Alta Vista Elementary School, where scores tend to decline in 5th grade. The school also demonstrates a remarkable ability to combat chronic absenteeism, achieving a dramatic drop from 24.3% in 2021-2022 to just 5.5% in 2022-2023, far better than district and state averages. Additionally, Fruitville invests heavily in its students with per-student spending of $17,247 and a low student-teacher ratio of 13.5:1, which is lower than top-performing neighbors like Ashton Elementary School and Lakeview Elementary School.

Compared to its most direct competitor, Brentwood Elementary School, Fruitville achieves nearly identical state rankings (585th vs. 559th) while spending $6,600 less per student, making it a more efficient operation. While the school experienced a dip in performance during the 2023-2024 school year, likely tied to a spike in chronic absenteeism, it has shown resilience by bouncing back to a 4-star rating. For parents seeking a stable, well-funded school with strong upper-grade instruction and effective attendance strategies, Fruitville Elementary is a compelling choice in the Sarasota area.

Open Quote We have two boys attending Fruitville for the past three years, and we LOVE IT!!
The Teachers, the staff, and student body. The PTO is amazing, and gives the students many opportunities to excel themselves. Book drives, career days, fund raisers are all fun and do a great deal for the students. The teachers go out of their way to support each student they have in their classrooms. Class sizes are small compared to the national averages, and parents are always welcome to join in the classroom to observe or lend a hand with activities. I would not move my gifted child to Pine View. He doesn't need 2 hours of homework everynight because the teacher doesn't value the parents time well.
